How can you tell?
How can you tell if your prospective IE is just as great in real life as they seem in their chat? I'm loving talking online, and I really hope he lives up to my expectations...How can I certify my gut feelings!

A video call is best for authentication, but not all are ready to face the video.
a voice call is the next level. This is something practical, I have enjoyed it a few times but reality check rules, nothing is certain until you actually meet someone.

First time in this whole situation, but pretty sure it relates to everyone in life.
You never know until you meet someone, even then I think it would take a few meets and outings to get to know someone.
Everyone has their own habits/personality that always takes time to come out, think that only happens once you start to get comfortable with someone.
Only way to find out is to spend time together lol

Sometimes you can’t relay your personality and emotions through text or phone calls ….everything can be misconstrued ….
You have to meet and most people are better in real life 😊

Getting verified itself is such a task. Most are lost in messaging 10 people at a time. And rarely someone is upfront for a coffee meet.

I have had a few meets over the years. Mostly people from here, once through Words With Friends (Yep, the Scrabble game).
They would usually be preceded by plenty of messages, developing to Whatsapps, photos, and sometimes telephone calls, but in my view you just don't know until you meet.
In my experience telephone calls are not a reliable way to judge. Some people are great on the 'phone others not. I think you need that in person interaction to know for sure.

The simple answer is that you meet IRL. However, the chat interaction is much more important than some would have you believe. There are plenty of people who struggle to keep a text conversation going - just imagine how much fun they would be in person...

I obviously agree with all the comments about meeting, however if we all said yes to meeting everyone we've built up a 'connection' with online then IE would be a serious full time occupation! So the way I approach this is by having a couple of chats on the 'phone beforehand. Ok, it can't cement chemistry that you get from meeting (or not) but it can definitely give you more of an indication of someone. Nowadays I don't meet anyone without having had a few 'phone calls. Of course it's not a set in stone principle but for me it does help to narrow the odds of a duff date!

You can never tell. Red flags can come any time, any place, anywhere.
